E-government refers to the government use the internet technology as a platform for exchanging information, providing services and transacting with citizens and businesses.
In Malaysia, our government is also implement e-government. MyEG Services Berhad is a concessionaire for the Malaysian E-Government MSC Flagship Application. Their portal enables Malaysians to dynamically interact with numerous agencies within the Federal, State and the Local Government machinery providing services ranging from information searches to licence applications. The services which it provides include buy auto insurance, road tax renewal, license renewal and others.

Effect of E-government implementation:
(1) Citizens can be close to our government since they can easily get the information through the internet.

(2) Modernize public services in which joined-up government institutions are in
touch and work more effectively and efficiently. Citizen can also save their time for going government department which required long period of time for waiting.

(3) It reduces opportunities for trivial fraud at the different point of service delivery.
It helps the government to cut down the lost due to those frauds since through e-government the transaction make is directly goes into particular government account.

(4) Increase and capture profit more efficiency since it is more convenient for citizen
to settle their debt to government such as fine, tax and license fee via the internet instead of going to the particular government department.

Adoption strategies:

Although E-government is more convenient to citizen, it faces some barriers. For example, government adopt E-filling for citizen to submit tax return form. However, some of the citizen continues to submit tax return form manually. The problem here is because of some of the citizen may not know how to use the computer especially the old generation. Besides, citizen may worry about the security problem.

Hence, in order to encourage citizen make more usage of the E-government, promotion and advertisement is the must. For example, the Inland Revenue Board has promoted the E-filling system through television and radio advertisement. Additionally, the MyEG is now promoting citizen to buy auto insurance online in order to stand a chance to win FREE road tax.

Promotion and advertisement is important for the government to launch a new E-government system. This not only get know by the citizen of the new system, it also encourage the citizen make use the system. Hence, government can cut down the administration expenses.
